Character (Adobe Illustrator)

I originally sketched these designs in preparation to be used as a logo for the company. Following the company name The Wholly Cow, I sketched out different variations of cows and cow heads, along with some possible Font styles.

There is no specific design document or creative brief for The Wholly Cow character as mentioned before it was originally the logo and and not intended to be used as a character.

After completing my initial designs, I asked the other stake holders in the business for their opinions and contributions. The majority of the team pointed out how happy the cow is and how it is closely related to the Dairylea cow.

I completed Swot analysis and came to the conclusion I will use the cow when I introduce brand extensions such as kids menus and dairy products.

The picture above maps out the design process I used when creating the cow and the different options I considered in production. Number one was produced using the shape tool alone. However, didn’t produce the image I visualised and would take a lot of adjusting to reach it also.

Figures 2 – 4 were produced using the pen tool (P), curvature pen tool (shiftP’) and the shape tool (L). The individual elements I produced using these tools are at the top of the picture above.

Making use of anchor points and the smooth tool helped produce a more accurate and tidy representation of my vision and designs, the more times I produced the logo the smoother and better the out come became. Eventually, I adjusted the character fill too black and added the signature Wholly Cow halo.
