design principles

Evaluating processes and practices used for creative and digital products

Responding to the ‘introductory design principles assignment brief’ I created a sketch book, relating to my interests in the advertising industry primarily focused on an advertisement campaign for Egypt.

I began creating my portfolio brainstorming, opening with a mind map; continuing to scribble possible outcomes for the campaign. I prefer this method of design thinking when starting a new project because it allows ideas to flow without compromise.

Backing up my ideas with surveys, I managed to collate responses giving me more feedback and confidence to move forward with the design process and what will be included.

Struggling to convey my ideas on to my sketchbook, I researched design principles and realised I needed to produce a creative brief. A learning curve for me, as it created a blue print and step by step guide for my campaign.

This worked well, In the future I will prioritise this document at the beginning of the design process. counterfactually thinking, without the creative brief it would have been a difficult task to produce the sketchbook in a relative order. I like my creative brief below, however the formatting and professionalism of the example above is better.

I enjoyed creating the creative brief, it raised curiosity to who carries out such work within the industry.

Keeping my options open, this could be a possible career choice.

Mood boards are a reliable source for inspiration, helping present previous examples which is good because they enable a responsive design process.

By creating story boards, I was able to simply convey the story for my campaign video. Useful, because it allows the ‘creative team’ to easily process my ideas. However I think my sketches could be better.

In my next projects I will make use of templates for all of my storyboards to add professionalism and also making them easier to follow.

When designing my logo concepts I brain stormed ideas, this was good because I would go on to collaborate those ideas and create logo concepts. I annotated and asked peers to criticise my work. This provided more opinions on the concepts enabling me to create a better design.

Overhaul I think the development processes and practices I incorporated in the assignment are effective and I believe within each segment the process from idea to final concept is evident. The formatting and sketches could be better and more detailed but that is something I would like to improve whilst studying for my creative and digital Level 3 Diploma.
