Digital imaging

Branding identity

After being handed the digital imaging assignment I rushed to find my solutions for the briefs, scribbling notes about what I enjoy and what makes me the person I am; I carried on creating draft sketches. In my opinion my ideas were irrational, had no connection and needed refining.

Brand identity is a combination of several elements that create an image or particular feeling when the company or person is brought to mind or interacted with. At this moment I have no brand value, I have nothing to offer. I will develop my skill set and develop an understanding of my future career choice, helping define my target audience.

“Your brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room.”  – Jeff Bezos

My avatar image is a vector-based logo, vector digital images are made up of points, lines and curves which are pieced together through mathematical equations allowing the image to be resized without pixelating. On the other hand, there are raster images which are made up of individual pixels.

final-logo-#1

The logo consists of a letter J manipulated into a boat design, travelling in water. The bottom of the letter appears to be submerged in water creating a tangible link between the slogan (submersive thinking) and the Logo. The boat and waves work well to represent travel, movement and adventure furthermore the submerged part of text represents deep thought.

I applied  zig zag distortion affects to lines I created with the line segment tool, collaborating these with the circular background creates negative space producing a wave effect. The waves create the illusion of refraction and look to naturally distort the image. Using the eye dropper tool, I sampled a colour of sea from a previous picture to apply to my image, creating separation and making my logo clearer; to create a neat edge around the logo, I produced a clipping mask.

Simplicity

Using photoshop to create my header, I used the quick selection tool and masked the bottom of the logo. Focusing on the eye-catching blue wave, boat section to strengthen my application of brand identity into the project, continuing the message of movement and adventure.

I need to work on my image manipulation skills, lack of practice has resulted in my image looking basic and original. I created a sunset image consisting of 3 raw image files, raw images contain more information allowing more detail. I used layers to preserve my original image, also making blending adjustments easier to control. On my self-elected assignment, I am going to focus on graphic design skills, enabling me to produce better quality work in the future.
